2019 Game Reports
WEEK 1: THE MADNESS BEGINS
GAME 1: Yellow (75/68) vs. Blue (54)
Our opener saw Yellow missing three people already and so Blue looked ready to pounce on the undermanned team. Unfortunate for Blue the ball wasn't falling as they attempted a bunch from beyond the arc but only managed to hit 8, not enough to keep them in the game as Yellow turned those long rebounds into countless run out points. Blue saw Colin Silver hit double figures in points with 20pts while Yellow had four players crack double figures, spearheaded by second year player Whitman Hyson with 18pts. MEN OF THE MATCH:
C.Silver, Blue W.Hyson, Yellow |
GAME 2: Orange (68) vs. Red (57/55)
Red was missing their big guns in this opening week matchup while Orange featured four players making their league debut. This game went back and forth for much of the game as the two teams looked to create distance but instead exchanged the lead numerous times with Red holding a single point lead heading into the final shift. The last five minutes may determine the game and in this case Matt Statton (26pts) took over and pulled Orange away from the Tyler Dylan (15pts) led Red team for the victory MEN OF THE MATCH:
M.Statton, Orange T.Dylan, Red |
GAME 3: Purple (80/79) vs. Green (59/54)
The final game of the night saw the rim get closed for the Green team while expanding for the Purple team who seemed to hit everything but their free throws. Purple built up an early lead that they would never relinquish, expanding their lead as Green still struggled to find the bottom of the basket. In the end Purple saw three players hit double figures, led by Josh Chayter with 25pts while Green was led by the wily veteran Bobby Lowe with 12pts. A good opening for Purple and Green had great shots that will cause problems when they start to fall. MEN OF THE MATCH:
B.Lowe, Green C.Carver, Purple |
WEEK 2: STILL FIGURING THINGS OUT
GAME 1: Blue (65) vs. Purple (71/68)
This game started off great for Blue as they pressured the ball and couldn't miss while Purple struggled to find their footing. As the game continued Purple met Blue with pressure and suddenly the shots that couldn't miss early were not falling at all. Channing Carver (28pts) took over the game while the Blue balanced attack led by Colin Silver (14pts) and Steven Zwicker (12pts) kept things close but in the end Purple hit their free throws and managed to escape with the victory to remain undefeated on the season. Blue will look for their first win next week. MEN OF THE MATCH:
S.Zwicker, Blue C.Carver, Purple |
GAME 2: Red (93/87) vs. Green (65)
Red saw the return of Justin Massey (34pts) and with a pressure defence that Green struggled to crack they easily took control of this game. The five point lead held at half time quickly expanded behind the balanced attack but as the game closed out Green saw glimmers of hope for next week as their pressure defence caused some turnovers and they capitalized on those for easy points. Green was led by Lucas Lavender (20pts) and Cameron Cunningham (11pts) while Red also saw Chad Garber (14pts) and Jarrod Fancy (12pts) hit double figures in the win. MEN OF THE MATCH:

This game was never more than four points apart in the first half as both teams looked solid both on offence and defence. Orange opened up a lead but Yellow got hot to close the gap and eventually send the game into the final shift tied. Matthew Statton (24pts) and Bailey Silver (11pts) led the balanced Orange attack while Yellow led by Damon Wamboldt (18pts) and Austin Smith (21pts) saw their chances disappear at the free throw line as Orange escaped with a one point victory. The teams battled back and forth in the first half leaving the score tied at 33 going into the second half. In the second half the teams tightened up and fought hard for the victory. While Red maintained its intensity, Yellow seemed to stumble offensively. Red built their lead behind the one-two punch of Justin Massey (33pts) and Jeremy Hirtle (16pts) while Yellow countered with strong games from Whitman Hyson (15pts), Damon Wamboldt (11pts) and Shane Hirtle (10pts). Playing shorthanded again both teams locked horns and played a great game. The ball was falling from distance for both teams as they combined for a total of 18 three-pointers. In the end Green felt the pain of missing players and came up short as Blue led by Colin Silver (20pts) and Tanner Hogue (12pts) helped waste two strong games from Caleb Barry (22pts) and Kyle Lowe (22pts). WEEK 5: HELLO IS ANYBODY OUT THERE ??
GAME 1: Red (98) vs. Purple (75/68)
Basketball is meant to be a team game and in this game that was missing. Purple was missing half its team and featured four substitute players while Red featured a one-man wrecking crew that forgot to pass the ball. Purple played hard but without a full team it was hard for the Josh Chaytor (26pts) and Evan Gibson (14pts) led team to slow down the toughest team in the league, especially when Justin Massey (49pts) decided to just play his own game. Chad Garber (22pts) chipped in on the other line as Red maintained its dominance over the past four games while Purple faltered to its second straight loss. MEN OF THE MATCH:

Green saw reinforcements arrive this week in the league's newest player, Ken Anthony (11pts) who seemed to spark the Green offensive attack. Yellow seemed rushed and out of sorts this week without their emotional leader and despite strong games from Damon Wamboldt (23pts) and Kegan Besaw (13pts) couldn't hold Green, led by Lucas Lavender (20pts) and Kyle Lowe (18pts), back from securing their first victory of the season. MEN OF THE MATCH:
K.Anthony, Green K.Besaw, Yellow |
WEEK 6: OFF TO THE RACES

Purple pressured and didn't stop until late into the game, pressing the tired Green team into mistakes and running up the lopsided score. Green fought valiantly to stay in the game but the lid stayed on the rim. Purple saw everyone touch the score sheet with Josh Chaytor (38pts) leading the attack. Blue played a consistent game and exercised its size inside to dominate the glass and help play the game at their pace. While the shots didn't fall quite as often Blue, paced by Nick Chaytor (15pts) and Matt Boland (12pts), kept control of the game for the majority of the game and Yellow just wasn't able to quite find its footing, despite Austin Smith (14pts) and Shane Hirtle (10pts) hitting double figures. A hard fought game by both teams. MEN OF THE MATCH:
M.Boland, Blue S.Hirtle, Yellow |
GAME 3: Orange (72) vs. Red (68/64)

Red played an outstanding defensive game, stifling the Orange assault that was countered by the gritty defence of the Orange team who once again kept the game close. Neither team looked ready to give in as the game continued and as the closing minutes arrived Orange made their free throws to send the game into overtime. In overtime Orange, led by Matt Statton (20pts), manged to secure their sixth win of the season while Red, led by Jeremy Hirtle (22pts) lost for just the second time this year. MEN OF THE MATCH:

Tanner Hogue (23pts) and Colin Silver (18pts) led the Blue team while Purple countered with strong games from Josh Chaytor (17pts) and Aaron Frail (14pts).
