2017 Award Recipients

COACH OF THE YEAR:
Michael O'Hearon, Orange
A young group of players looked for leadership, especially when the season started off slowly for the Orange team. It would be easy to get frustrated but the young Orange team stayed together under his guidance and with each passing game got better. Young players were given chances to perform on the big stage, developing their own character and personality on the court. Despite not always getting the calls they wanted the team stayed positive and defensively own the game. He may not have been the strongest on the court but he tried to lead by example and always tried to show his players the respect they deserve.
Runners Up:
Z.Hamidi, Green & B.Lowe, Pink
SUBSTITUTE PLAYER OF THE YEAR:
James Cheeseman
Jimmy Cheese was late getting forms in and was relegated to the sub list but was regularly a component with each team throughout the season. He played for four different teams and was a nuisance for his opponents with his hustle and hard defence. He always had a smile and a friendly word for his opponents, some of whom became teammates the next week. James was a hard worker and one of the best fast break outlets in the league.
Runners Up:
M.Joudrey & A.Wamboldt
PLAYOFF PERFORMER OF THE YEAR:
Channing Carver, Blue
He had suffered playoff disappointment is years past, a player who could dominate a game when he was on his best. In the first game of the playoffs he was good, playing a facilitator while his team rose up around him. In the championship he cemented his league legacy when he took over the game, dominating the offensive end in such a fashion that Maroon had no answer for them. Scoring 37 points in the final while disrupting the lanes with reckless abandon. He was a man apart in the final game and finally captured his first league championship.
Runners Up:
C.Garber, Maroon & A.Frail, Blue
LEAGUE MOST VALUABLE PLAYER:
Catlin Garber, Maroon
All season he was a difference maker for the Maroon team. He dominated the outside game with such authority that teams tried to crowd the three-point line with little success as his range was half. When he wasn't killing it from long range he was attacking the basket with speed and ruthlessness. Teams planned their defence around him and quite often there was no answer for him. He always had a smile and was friendly with everyone. The Lucky Leprechaun stood out as a man apart this season as he shattered three-point records, and led the league in scoring en route to guiding his team to the championship game.
