2016 Game reports

WEEK 1:  OPENING TIP
GAME 1: Black (76) vs. Gold (66)
The opening game of the season was a battle of wills as two teams visciously fought for every basket while trying to find a flow on the court with a new set of teammates. Black found their common ground on defence and with Josh Chaytor (24) leading the attack they managed to hold of Justin Massey (28) to garner the first victory of the season. Definitely shoring up to be an exciting season if this is how all the games go.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
J.Chaytor, Black
J.Massey, Gold
GAME 2: Purple (61/60) vs. Orange (56)
Purple and Orange tried to follow up the exciting first game with a solid second game. Both teams played hard and managed to get every involved in the game. Jason MacVane (13) was a leader on the Purple team and rallied the troops as they managed to hold back the Damon Wamboldt (15) led Orange team. Young players really stepped up under the older leadership and both teams showed promise for the future.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
J.MacVane, Purple
D.Wamboldt, Orange
GAME 3: Blue (60/59) vs. Red (63)
A third straight game and a third straight battle on the opening night. Blue spread out their attack, involving the whole team to attack while Red countered with a focused attack that worked its way through Mark Rogers (34). In the end his sharpshooting helped Red over the hump as a solid game from Cameron Cunningham (16) wasn't enough to carry Blue to the victory. Both teams look poised for a long run this season.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
C.Cunningham, Blue
M.Rogers, Red

WEEK 2: CHEMISTRY CLASS IS STILL IN SESSION
GAME 1: Red (78/75) vs. Orange (75/68)
This game was a fierce battle between two teams looking to find their way with Orange starting off strongly and holding a halftime lead. Red was not to be held back though as they buckled down on defence and started hitting their shots while Orange went cold. Mark Rogers (19) and Andrew Johnson (20) led the second half assault while Mackenzie Carver (15) and Michael O'Hearon (19) managed to help keep the game close but for Orange it wasn't meant to be.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
M.O'Hearon, Orange
A.Johnson, Red
GAME 2: Black (63/61) vs. Purple (65/59)
This game was a great game with two wonderful teams coming together and going tooth and nail until the final seconds of the game. Purple spread the ball around their team and made it hard on Black to close down their defence. Josh Chaytor (18) and Cody DeLong (11) played a great inside out game while Alex Slauenwhite (12) and Austin Smith (11) ran the ball hard and attack from the wings at the heart of the Black defence. Black ended up stealing a point in the end but Purple captured the victory.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
C.DeLong, Black
A.Smith, Purple
GAME 3: Blue (83/71) vs. Gold (79)
Both teams were upset in the first week and looked to play strong in their second game. Back and forth they battled and in the end regulation couldn't separate the two teams. Gold was led by Jarette Hubley (21) and Connor Munro (26) while Blue was led by Channing Carver (17) and Bailey Silver (15). The final blow of the game didn't come from the seasoned veteran but by Mason Robar who hit his first shot of the game, a three-pointer, to break the tie and give Blue the overtime victory.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
B.Silver, Blue
C.Munro, Gold

WEEK 3: SETTLING IN
GAME 1: Purple (65) vs. Blue (74)
Blue seems to have found their mojo after the huge victory over Gold the previous week. With two balanced lines they took on a Purple team looking to build on their early two game winning streak. Blue found its offence on the inside with Wendell Weir (31) and Ryan Kaulback (11) providing the powerful inside presence. Jason MacVane (24), a vocal leader for Purple led the troops but in the end Blue showed up with too many weapons and took home their second win in a row.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
W.Weir, Blue
J.MacVane, Purple
GAME 2: Gold (83/81) vs. Red (59)
Gold decided to stack the deck against the Red team and brought it by stacking their strongest line against the big guns of Red. Red couldn't find their footing while Gold attacked with precision on all fronts. Jarette Hubley (29) dominated the game inside and out with Connor Munro (20) chipping in with a solid game. Nick Chaytor (20) was the lone scoring threat for Red who seemed lost on the court while Gold found their mojo and look like the team to beat if they continue this way.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
J.Hubley, Gold
N.Chaytor, Red
GAME 3: Black (59) vs. Orange (63)
Black and Orange were looking to find their footing after hard losses the previous week. Both teams couldn't find the net with consistency and battled hard throughout the game. Mike Zinck (11) helmed the Black attack while Jonathan Oickle (10) stepped up big in the middle. Orange played solid defence and hit the boards hard, staving off the good game by the Black team. Both teams showed promise and will definitely be a thorn in other teams side for the remainder of the season.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
M.Zinck, Black
J.Oickle, Orange

WEEK 4: CHEMISTRY CLASS ADJOURNED
GAME 1: Gold (88) vs. Orange (60/55)
Gold had been playing possum for the first few games but with the line of death they have began annihilating the competition. The undermanned Orange team was the next victim to be steamrolled by Gold whose three pronged attack featured the Massey (28) & Hubley (23) connection but added in Bailey Weagle (19) this week. Orange countered with M.O'Hearon (11) and a few players that hit double figures with 10 points each. A slow opening game to the week.

MEN OF THE MATCH:
B.Weagle, Gold
N.Wassink, Orange
GAME 2: Black (71) vs. Blue (59/53)
Black settled back down after a few rough weeks and got back to basics, only this time with new player Catlin Garber (16) making his debut for the Black team. Every one hit the scoreboard for the Black team as they easily doused the momentum of the Blue team. Blue saw Wendell Weir (21) and Cameron Cunningham (18) lead the way while Josh Chaytor (22) balanced out the new found Black attack machine. Black's changed dynamics make the rest of the season very interesting for sure.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
C.Garber, Black
C.Cunningham, Blue
GAME 3: Purple (66) vs. Red (83/79)
Red was fuming after a rough game last week and took out their aggressions on the shell shocked Purple team. Red saw everyone hit the board while Purple struggled to find consistency throughout the game. Caleb Barry (15) soared for the Purple team but wasn't enough to offset the solid game from Andrew Johnson (25) and Steven Zwicker (14). Both teams are riding a rollercoaster of emotions this season, setting up what should be an exciting second half of the season.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
C.Barry, Purple
S.Zwicker, Red

WEEK 5:  FIRST TIME THROUGH THE SCHEDULE
GAME 1: Black (68) vs. Red (53/49)
Black continued to play a spread out style of offence and took advantage of a Red team that was missing many of its strong scorers. Red clamped down on defence but couldn't stop the balanced Black attack. Catlin Garber (14) led the Black attack with Red countering with a strong game from Jacob Reeves (15). Both teams will look to make strong pushes during the second half of the season.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
K.Veinot, Black
J.Reeves, Red
GAME 2: Gold (91/90) vs. Purple (68)
The two-headed monster of Gold continued to run roughshod over the league and their own team as they helped Gold to its third straight victory of the season. Massey (28) and Hubley (34) dominated the game with Kyle Lowe (22) stepping up with a strong game in response from Purple. It is looking like the season of Gold with the rest of the teams looking to fill the second place spot in the championship.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
J.Cheeseman, Gold
K.Lowe, Purple
GAME 3: Orange (47/46) vs. Blue (64/63)
Orange continued to struggle with missing players and lack of experience as they fought a Blue team looking to get back on track going into the second half of the season. Cameron Cunningham (22) took control of the game and easily dominated the scoreboard while Michael O'Hearon (13) tried to counter for the Orange team that started off strong but faded down the stretch.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
C.Cunningham, Blue
D.Broome, Orange

WEEK 6:
GAME 1: Black (75) vs. Gold (99/96)
This was a game where tempers flared  early and the explosion was due to come. With the Gold teams big two choosing  to exercise their muscle , Gold built up a strong lead and when they continued push the lead, tempers exploded.  Once tempers settled down and the chirping ended, Gold cruised to the easy victory. Jarrett Hubley (43) led the Gold attack while Catlin Garber (15) responded  for the Black team.

MEN OF THE MATCH:
C.Garber, Black
J.Cheeseman, Gold
GAME 2: Orange (60/51) vs. Purple (49/46)
This game was a calm amidst the storm. Both teams played solid all night and while  Purple fought valiantly they couldn't match the size of the Orange team.  Kyle Lowe (15pts) was the engine of the Purple assault while Jonathan Oickle (12) and Damon Wamboldt (16) bookended  the Orange attack. For the first time all season Orange escaped the bottom of the standings while Purple fell to last.

MEN OF THE MATCH:
J.Oickle, Orange
K.Lowe, Purple
GAME 3: Blue (86/77) vs. Red (88/72) 2OT
This game was a battle royale with both teams  as neither team could distance themselves from each other. Respect was given but then tempers flared on the Red side and after technicals were given Blue found themselves in the fray. Regulation couldn't solve anything and neither could overtime. In the end Red hit their free throws while Blue chose a bad time to go cold. Channing Carver (31) led the Red assault while Tyler Dylan (18) and Wendell Weir  (18) countered for Blue.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
T.Dylan, Blue
C.Carver, Red

WEEK 7: SITTING ON A POWDER KEG  or COOLER HEADS PREVAIL?
GAME 1: Blue (68/61) vs. Gold (85)
Gold learned the lessons from the night before and distributed the ball from the opening tip.  They sliced the Blue defence to shreds  as they rolled to their fifth consecutive win. Gold was led by their trio of Massey (26), Hubley (20) and Munro (18) while Blue countered with Wendell Weir (19) and substitute Alex Joudrey (10). In the end  Gold held on to their top spot while Blue will have to fight hard to reach the championship game.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
A.Joudrey, Blue
C.Munro, Gold
GAME 2: Black (73/71) vs. Purple (78)
This was a heated game between two teams looking to find a place in the standings. Purple was led by a solid  team game , highlighted by Kyle Lowe (19) and Jason MacVane (24) while Black struggled to find their footing despite strong games from Catlin Garber (26) and Cody DeLong (16).  In the end the ball dropped easier for Purple than it did for Black and Purple made sure that the last three regular season games were going to be interesting.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
C.Garber, Black
J.MacVane, Purple
GAME 3: Orange (91) vs. Red (78/75)
Orange continued its hot play of late with another total team effort that saw four players reach double figures in scoring. Red saw the return of the gunner Mark Rogers (23) and an excellent game from Nick Chaytor (23) but it wasn't enough as big men Damon Wamboldt (28) and Jonathan Oickle (18) dominated the paint.  In the end it was the young guns that made the difference for Orange who continued their climb up the standings.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
S.Fancey & N.Wassink, Orange
N.Chaytor, Red

WEEK 8: AND THE HEAT IS ON ...
GAME 1: Blue (76)  vs. Purple (68)
This was an important game for both teams who were looking to make a push for a spot in the championship game . Neither team was willing to give an inch  as they fought for every basket, battling back and forth throughout the  first half. In the second half Blue organized the troops and slowly got some separation between the two teams. Led by strong performances from Wendell Weir (22) and Bailey Silver (15) Blue took command of the game and despite  a strong performance from Jason MacVane (25). In the end Blue  slid into second place with two weeks left.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
W.Weir, Blue
J.MacVane, Purple
GAME 2: Gold (87/80) vs. Red (72/69)
Gold was looking to clinch first place with their game this week and Red was missing their big two who were absent yet again. Gold played their best team game of the season as they spread their offence and saw  every player hit the score sheet . In the end Red's lack of depth helped Gold cruise to the win behind strong games from Justin Massey (29) and Connor Munro (21) while Red countered with a strong performance from their young guns, Luke Young (16) and Daylan Stitt-Williams (12) but it wasn't enough as Gold can now just wait and see who they will face in Week 11.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
C.Munro, Gold
L.Young, Red
GAME 3: Black (59) vs. Orange (69/68)
Two teams looking to keep the ship afloat in the championship game hunt, with both teams playing strong ball in the past few weeks. Orange with its veteran core and Caledonia youth movement played solid defence all evening and crashed the boards hard to control the paint. Led by Michael O'Hearon (29) and Damon Wamboldt (20), the Orange team controlled the pace and outscored  Catlin Garber (18) and Josh Chaytor (14), the big two of Black. Orange slides into third place while Black has two weeks to try and slide up the standings before the final week.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
D.Ott, Black
M.O'Hearon, Orange

WEEK 9: MUD IN THE WATERS  ...
GAME 1: Purple (96/93) vs. Red (60/56)
This was a big game for both teams but only one team actually showed  up to play. Red was playing with three substitutes and was missing half their team when they took to the court . Purple featuring the majority of the team took advantage of the disjointed team  and built a commanding lead with strong defence and an unstoppable fast break attack. Led by Austin Smith (24) and Jason MacVane (16) Purple easily countered the strong game from Andrew Johnson (22) and earned their  fourth victory of the season.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
A.Smith, Purple
A.Johnson, Red
GAME 2: Gold (80/74) vs. Orange (72)
Orange needed a big game  to overcome the powerhouse Gold team. Gold played their best game of the season, using everyone on the team to open up an insurmountable lead that they would never relinquish.  Down by 22pts at one point in the game Orange fought back behind strong games from  Michael O'Hearon (23) and Aaron Frail (10) but an explosion from Keegan Carver (14) and another strong game from Jarrett Hubley (20) and Gold held off the comeback, making Orange's championship run hard at best.
MEN OF THE MATCH:

GAME 1:  Black (87/85) vs. Red (72/64)
This was a fun game where Black was battling for placement while Red was once again missing a large portion of their team. Catlin Garber (33) lit up the three-point line and helped control the Black attack with his precision bombs. Jacob Reeves (19) countered for the shorthanded Red team with another strong performance but in the end it wasn't enough to keep Red out of the basement as Black jumped spots to fourth in the standings.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
C.Garber, Black
J.Reeves, Red
GAME 2: Blue (66) vs. Orange (69/68)
The little engine that could, Orange,  needed a powerful  performance against a strong Blue team. Both teams played strong games with neither giving an inch on the court. The Orange team captured victory behind Damon Wamboldt (27) and Jonathan Oickle (17) but Wendell Weir (24) and Cameron Cunningham (18) managed to keep the game close enough that they will now face Gold in the final while Orange managed to finish in a solid third place.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
C.Cunningham, Blue
D.Wamboldt, Orange
GAME 3: Gold (77/64) vs. Purple (60)
Gold continued to play strong team basketball as they built on their current winning streak, which is now at nine games. Justin Massey (24) paced the Gold standard who received strong games from Sam Jess (11) and Mackenzie Carver (20). Purple couldn't find their pace despite a strong game from Alex Slauenwhite (14)  in the paint, and once again Gold rolled to victory. Purple dropped to fifth place while Gold looks in fine form going into the final.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
S.Jess, Gold
A.Slauenwhite, Purple

WEEK 11:  THE FINALS ARE SET - LET THE FUN COME TO AN END
GAME 1: Purple (88/70) vs. Red (86)
This was fun game between two teams that had their seasons curtailed by absences. Purple was playing shorthanded with a few stalwart subs and they quickly found their rhythm behind the ball distribution of Jason MacVane (8). Red countered with Mark Rogers (28) and Andrew Johnson (12) playing together for the first time together in weeks. With subs Tyler Dylan (17) and Cory Duchesne (13) helping the Purple attack, Purple finished with  the win  though Red certainly kept it interesting until the final whistle.

MEN OF THE MATCH:
C.Barry, Purple
M.Rogers, Red
GAME 2: Black (68/64) vs. Orange (76/74)
This was another fun game where both teams came out and played hard with nothing to lose. Black was supported by the sharpshooting of Catlin Garber (25)  who hit five from long distance. The Orange youth movement played fabulously as they continued their season where they played beyond their years. Jonathan Oickle (14), Aaron Frail (15) and Spencer Fancy (11) played beyond their years  and helped Orange finish the season with their sixth win despite a strong second half from Black.

MEN OF THE MATCH:
C.Garber, Black
S.Fancy, Orange
GAME 3: Blue (50) vs. Gold (71)
The final game of the season was a strong representation of defence versus offence. Both teams came out with all cylinders firing . Behind stellar performances from Jarrett Hubley (26) and  Connor Munro (17) the Gold team easily avenged their early season loss to Blue . Cameron Cunningham (13) and Wendell Weir (12) tried to counter for Blue but in the end Gold finished the season with the well earned championship.
MEN OF THE MATCH:
C.Cunningham, Blue
J.Hubley, Gold
